Los Angeles photographer Pej Behdarvand is best-known for his studio-lit celebrity portraits.
But his latest project is different.
Behdarvand documented the world of bodybuilding in rural Africa.
The series is called "Bingwa," which means 'champion' or 'expert' in Swahili, but has also come to mean 'bodybuilder.'
Behdarvand traveled to Kenya and Uganda, and found that bodybuilders don't often have access to gym equipment. They made their own, using stones as weights.
Behdarvand's photos are being shown at the DRKRM gallery through the end of this week.
