True Facts About the Mantis Shrimp

The mantis shrimp has six eyes that allow it to see more colors than any animal on earth. That all sounds rainbow-tastic, all peace and love. But, you probably didn't know that the rainbow shrimp also punches prey with the speed of a .22 caliber bullet.

This crustacean is the subject of the latest installment in Ze Frank's sardonic and hilarious True Facts series that sheds light on bizarre corners of the animal kingdom

If you're a public radio nerd, you're already familiar with the mantis shrimp. The sea creature and its trinocular eyes, which can also see 12 color wavelengths (fourfold that of the human eye), were crowned the world champion in Radiolab's Colors episode.

Take a listen if you missed it.
