Behind the facades of exterior film sets

From the outside, Warner Bros. Ranch in Burbank looks like a block from your average sleepy suburban neighborhood.

But walk through a front door and you might see a parking lot through the living room window.

The ranch is home to exterior sets where TV shows like "Shameless" and "The Middle" film.

In 1934, the Columbia Pictures Corporation bought a 40 acre lot on N Hollywood Way. The backlot became known as Columbia Ranch.

During the '70s, Warner Bros. and Columbia Pictures merged and eventually the lot became Warner Bros. Ranch.

For years shows like "Bewitched," "I Dream of Jeannie" and "The Waltons" filmed there.

Darrin and Samantha Stephens' home in "Bewitched" looks like a beautiful two-story retro house. But it's actually only a few yards deep and has concrete floors.

You'd recognize many of the sets in movies like "American Beauty," "Lethal Weapon" and "Pleasantville."
