When I was a kid, I wanted to have every job imaginable.
The young me thought it was so odd to have to chose one thing and do that for the rest of my life.
I had plans to be a teacher for a little while, then maybe a pastry chef. After that I'd take Andy Rooney's job on "60 Minutes" and then be a cast member on "Saturday Night Live."
Becoming a photojournalist is my way of having every job imaginable. I get to roam Southern California seeing new places and meeting new people.
My Instagram feed is my visual notebook while out on assignment – extra compositions and visual details that don't always show up on our website.
It's also a place where I get to experiment. You'll find lots of double exposures, manipulations and slow-motion iPhone 5S videos.
Here's a slow-mo video of a Tesla Coil:
You can find me on Instagram. I'm @mayasugarman.
Here are some people I enjoy on Instagram: Q. Sakamaki (@qsakamaki) is a photographer in New York, his street photography uses reflections and framing in a great way. I love my photo friend James Tensuan's (@tenusan) eye for unexpected compositions. For really great double exposures, check out @echosight where Instagrams from two different photographers are layered onto each other.
